After a lengthy illness, former cricket player Muhammad Nazir Junior passes away 

Lahore-born cricketer-turned-umpire had been severely ill and undergoing treatment at private hospital since last week

LAHORE: According to his son on Thursday, Mohammad Nazir Junior, a former cricket player and umpire for Pakistan, died at the age of 78 following a lengthy illness.
                         
Before his untimely death, Nazir was receiving treatment at a private hospital here after being seriously ill for the past week.

                           



                                                                                 


Five years ago, the cricket player from Lahore suffered severe injuries in a car accident that worsened his condition.
                                     
During his international career, the right-handed cricketer grabbed 34 wickets while playing for Pakistan in 14 Test matches and four ODIs. He became the first spinner from Pakistan to take seven wickets in the opening innings of his debut Test match.
                 
After that, he decided to become an umpire and, in his short time there, refereed five Test matches and fifteen ODIs.tests over a short period of time.

                                       
Nazir Junior was admired for his cricket knowledge and his role in developing undeveloped talent.
                             
The cricket community and Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi both expressed their profound sadness and grief at the former umpire and cricket player's untimely death.
                           
Naqvi lavished praise on Nazir Junior for his contributions to Pakistani cricket. "On behalf of the PCB, I express my condolences and grief over the demise of our former Test Cricketer Mohammad Nazir," he stated in a statement.
                             
"We share his friends' and family's sorrow and offer our sincere condolences.
